<image:title>Gift Shop - Have you stopped by lately to see our beautiful gift items, carefully selected by our capable volunteer staff? We buy from grass-roots businesses in developing nations to support and share the rich cultures of our family of nations. You’ll also find a good collection of UN books, journals and articles. Stop by our store to check out our goods or learn more about the Chapter.</image:title>
<image:caption>Merchandise sales support the work of our Chapter locally. Support artisans in the developing world by buying mainly fair trade items. At holiday time, receipts from the sale of UNICEF cards and gifts go to UNICEF, enabling it to carry on its humanitarian work around the world. Throughout the year, we host special sales events to support our chapter’s various causes, including the Adopt-A-Future refugee education project and our annual basket sale benefiting UNICEF.</image:caption>

<image:title>Gender Equality for CEDAW - Goal: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls</image:title>
<image:caption>Gender equality and women’s empowerment have advanced in recent decades. Girls’ access to education has improved, the rate of child marriage declined and progress was made in the area of sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights, including fewer maternal deaths. Nevertheless, gender equality remains a persistent challenge for countries worldwide and the lack of such equality is a major obstacle to sustainable development.</image:caption>

<image:caption>UNA-Midpeninsula is proud to support the Ecumenical Hunger Program, which has been working for over 40 years to sustain our neighbors in East Palo Alto, Menlo Park and surrounding communities. Among its many goals, EHP exemplifies the objectives of SDG 2: the target of Zero Hunger. EHP’s mission is to assist local families and individuals who are experiencing economic and personal hardship. EHP provides food, clothing, household essentials, support, and advocacy to our neighbors to sustain them through immediate crises and to help them regain stability and independence. EHP serves working families, seniors, people with limited incomes and those who have both emergency and on-going needs in East Palo Alto, Menlo Park and surrounding communities. Consider participating in one of EHP’s upcoming programs via one of the many volunteer opportunities and by contacting the EHP volunteer team.</image:caption>

<image:title>Climate Action: Earth Day Every Day - Thanks to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change we know:</image:title>
<image:caption>From 1880 to 2012, average global temperature increased by 0.85°C. To put this into perspective, for each 1 degree of temperature increase, grain yields decline by about 5 per cent. Maize, wheat and other major crops have experienced significant yield reductions at the global level of 40 megatonnes per year between 1981 and 2002 due to a warmer climate. Oceans have warmed, the amounts of snow and ice have diminished and sea level has risen. From 1901 to 2010, the global average sea level rose by 19 cm as oceans expanded due to warming and ice melted. The Arctic’s sea ice extent has shrunk in every successive decade since 1979, with 1.07 million km² of ice loss every decade Given current concentrations and on-going emissions of greenhouse gases, it is likely that by the end of this century, the increase in global temperature will exceed 1.5°C compared to 1850 to 1900 for all but one scenario. The world’s oceans will warm and ice melt will continue. Average sea level rise is predicted as 24 – 30cm by 2065 and 40-63cm by 2100. Most aspects of climate change will persist for many centuries even if emissions are stopped Global emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) have increased by almost 50 per cent since 1990 Emissions grew more quickly between 2000 and 2010 than in each of the three previous decades It is still possible, using a wide array of technological measures and changes in behaviour, to limit the increase in global mean temperature to two degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels Major institutional and technological change will give a better than even chance that global warming will not exceed this threshold</image:caption>

<image:caption>In September 2015, 193 world leaders agreed to 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development. If these goals are completed, it would mean an end to extreme poverty, inequality and climate change by 2030. Our governments have a plan to save our planet…it’s our job to make sure they stick to it. The Global Goals are only going to work if we fight for them, and you can’t fight for your rights if you don’t know what they are. We believe the goals are only going to be completed if we can make them famous. Share them! SDG Two-Pagers: Why It Matters are excellent 2-page colorful overviews of each of the goals. SDG One-Pagers: all 17 goals with detailed targets (merged into one document, one page each) SDG Progress can be followed at sdg-tracker.org, an excellent website provided by Our World in Data.</image:caption>
